The Forgetting by Sharon Cameron

Finally! It feels like it's been forever since I finished a book!

It hasn't been that long really, but for me nearly a month seems like an eternity. My latest read, and perhaps my last full finish of 2017, is The Forgetting by Sharon Cameron. I have to say, I bought this book for two reasons. The first was, well, look at that cover! The second was that it came recommended by a lovely worker at Barnes and Noble in Tulsa, and after reading the inside sleeve I was intrigued. Sure, it gives off the dystopian vibe which, I admit, is getting extremely played out by this point, but it sounded just different enough to hook me.

So, without further ado, let's review! (Haha, I totally didn't mean for that to rhyme, but I like that it did.)

1. Characters: To be honest, I didn't feel any extremely strong feelings about any of the characters, but I did like them as a general rule. I would not say this is a character-driven novel.

2. Story: The story actually was very original (in my opinion). I thought it would be fairly predictable, but it definitely took a turn mid-way or maybe 3/4 through that I did not expect, and for that in itself I would recommend it.

3. Author's Writing Style: I would read more by this author, and I will probably read the companion novel (there's no sequel, but there is a companion, which I really like the concept of!), but I would not say I was in love with the style. I would be interested to read something more clearly sci-fi or clearly fantasy. This was kind of ambiguous and as I said, it gave off the dystopian vibe which I'm a bit burned out on.

4. Overall Rating: 3.5/5, maybe 4/5 Stars. Since it took me a few weeks to finish this, and I'm not sure that I would read it again (unless way in the future), I don't quite want to give this an automatic 4 stars. However, I have no real complaints that warrant docking a full star down to 3. I'm at a loss for how to rate it! Just consider this somewhere between 3 and 4 stars.

5. Similar Reading: If you like any of the works below, I think you'll like this. Or, if you've read this and are looking for something with a similar vibe, you might check these out! Click the covers to add them to your Goodreads shelf or read their synopses.

Monday Madness!

Ahoy there! 💦 (No idea why I felt like greeting you that way... But I did.) I just had to gush on two particular things today: 1. My Shelfie 2. My Shop Item #1 on the agenda: The shelfie I posted yesterday! Click the image to visit my bookstagram! I gotta admit.. I really  like the way my shelves look right now. Unfortunately, in order to showcase some of my favorite covers of the moment, I had to hide about half of my books behind  other books. Which is kind of fun because next time I rearrange my bookcase and take them all out, I will have undoubtedly forgotten about many of them and it'll be like re-discovering lost treasure. 😂However, it also means I simple don't get to enjoy the visibility of about half my books. 😔 Sad times. At this point, nearly every single little cubby has books behind books. So, I mean, I can't just keep doing that forever. Eventually, I will need to get a new bookshelf to add to my bookcase. The problem is, I really want a whi...
