The Disappearances by Emily Bain Murphy

I finally finished a book, ya'll! I'm pretty excited because it seemed I was approaching a slump. Last night I stayed up late to finish The Disappearances by Emily Bain Murphy, and I was quite surprised by the ending!

Let me start off by saying, I mainly picked up this book because of the cover. I thought it would be a slightly chilling read.. It was not. However, it was still a very enjoyable novel. Click the cover to visit this book's page on Goodreads and read the full synopsis.

1. Characters: There is a great variety of characters in this story, and by the end I really felt close to many of them. The mystery surrounding a couple of the characters is enough to keep me interested, but not so much that I became frustrated which has happened with other books I've read in the past. I really like the family relationships and friendships that develop in this novel. By the end, I felt like I knew these characters and like I was one of them even.

2. Story: Like I said, don't let the cover fool you. This is not a horror or suspense story by any means. There were no moments that gave me chills. However, there is a great level of mystery all the way from start to finish. The story itself felt truly unique to me. I have a hard time comparing it to anything else because it really does stand alone in the genre of YA fiction.

3. Author's Writing Style: I would absolutely read other works by this author. She had a beautiful flow of language, the pacing was good, and the overall presentation of the story was interesting.

4. Overall Rating: 4/5 Stars. When I was about halfway through this book, I was leaning towards a rating of 3-3.5 stars. I enjoyed it, but it wasn't gripping me enough to really bump it up to 4 stars. The ending changed that! It did not feel predictable, I was content with how things were wrapped up, and if anything, it made me wish this was more than a stand alone novel.

5. Similar Reading: Like I said, it's pretty difficult to determine what I should recommend following this review because this really was a very unique work of fiction. However, here's a few "similar" reads, as best I could come up with. Click the cover of each to visit their Goodreads pages!

Monday Madness!

Ahoy there! 💦 (No idea why I felt like greeting you that way... But I did.) I just had to gush on two particular things today: 1. My Shelfie 2. My Shop Item #1 on the agenda: The shelfie I posted yesterday! Click the image to visit my bookstagram! I gotta admit.. I really  like the way my shelves look right now. Unfortunately, in order to showcase some of my favorite covers of the moment, I had to hide about half of my books behind  other books. Which is kind of fun because next time I rearrange my bookcase and take them all out, I will have undoubtedly forgotten about many of them and it'll be like re-discovering lost treasure. 😂However, it also means I simple don't get to enjoy the visibility of about half my books. 😔 Sad times. At this point, nearly every single little cubby has books behind books. So, I mean, I can't just keep doing that forever. Eventually, I will need to get a new bookshelf to add to my bookcase. The problem is, I really want a whi...
