Dividing Eden by Joelle Charbonneau

Goodbye, 2017! Farewell! You were a tough year, but full of blessings, too.

I'm happy to say I squeaked my final read of 2017 in just before midnight last night (literally with seconds to spare)! And what a read it was! I started it only the day before, which means this was the fastest I've finished a book in, well, a while. So... let's review!

To be honest, this book was mainly a cover buy, but it also came recommended by a worker at Barnes and Noble who seemed to have mostly similar taste in YA books as me, so I gave it a shot. And bought it brand new. At full price!! But let me say, it was totally worth it!!

1. Characters: There is a nice mix of characters in this story, and one in particular goes through some serious development. I probably wouldn't say this story is very character driven, but I connected with the characters and cared what happened to them and what choices they made more than usual for this kind of book. No spoilers, but there was definitely a point with one of the characters where they made a choice that truly broke my heart. I hope they redeem themself in the next book! (So glad there's another book...)

2. Story: What a story! I honestly didn't really have high hoped because a lot of the YA cover buys I've reached for lately have been a bit of a letdown (I'm looking at you, The Diabolic..), but this one moved quickly once it got going, and the setup for the first few chapters kept me interested as well. There were a couple of turning points I didn't expect, although they may have been more predictable had I sat down and thought about it. Instead, I devoured this as quickly as I could. I did have one suspicion, however, that turned out to be true... I KNEW IT! Haha.

3. Author's Writing Style: I really enjoyed this author's style, and I'll definitely be looking for more works by her. It reminded me slightly of Mary E. Pearson's style in The Remnant Chronicles which was one of my favorite reads of 2017.

4. Overall Rating: 5/5 Stars. I knew early on (and I even mentioned it in an update on Goodreads) that this would be a 4 or 5 star read unless something appalling happened, but I really did not expect the end to grip me as much as it did. Those last hundred pages flew by!! Needless to say, I will be keeping an eye out for the sequel, Eden Conquered. I'm slightly disappointed I don't like the cover of that one as much as this.

5. Similar Reading: Here we come to one of my favorite but most challenging parts of my book reviews.. related works! If you've read these titles below, you will likely enjoy Dividing Eden and vice versa. Click the covers to visit each book's page on Goodreads and add it to your tbr shelf!

HAPPY RELEASE DAY, LILAC LANE!!

It's here, it's here! You guys, Lilac Lane is finally released and available for purchase! You may have seen my post about it on bookstagram earlier, but in case you missed it, here's the beauty in all its soft purple glory! 😍 What a catch. I am  so  thankful to have received a copy in advance. Although I have yet to start  watching  Chesapeake Shores on Hallmark Channel (it's the very next show on my list!), I was able to appreciate the beauty of this novel. I truly believe it can be enjoyed whether you've read all the Chesapeake Shores books or this is the first you pick up! Synopsis: Single mom Kiera Malone struggled for years to raise her three children in a small town on the coast of Ireland. Just when she’s let down her guard and allowed herself to love again, her fiancé suffers a fatal heart attack and leaves her alone yet again. Overwhelmed by her loss, she’s persuaded to visit her father, Dillon O’Malley, and her daughter, Moira O’Brien, i...

Monday Madness!

Ahoy there! 💦 (No idea why I felt like greeting you that way... But I did.) I just had to gush on two particular things today: 1. My Shelfie 2. My Shop Item #1 on the agenda: The shelfie I posted yesterday! Click the image to visit my bookstagram! I gotta admit.. I really  like the way my shelves look right now. Unfortunately, in order to showcase some of my favorite covers of the moment, I had to hide about half of my books behind  other books. Which is kind of fun because next time I rearrange my bookcase and take them all out, I will have undoubtedly forgotten about many of them and it'll be like re-discovering lost treasure. 😂However, it also means I simple don't get to enjoy the visibility of about half my books. 😔 Sad times. At this point, nearly every single little cubby has books behind books. So, I mean, I can't just keep doing that forever. Eventually, I will need to get a new bookshelf to add to my bookcase. The problem is, I really want a whi...

BOOK TOUR! The Weaver's Daughter by Sarah E. Ladd

Huge thank-you to TLC Book Tours for sending me a copy of The Weaver's Daughter by Sarah E. Ladd. I haven't had a chance to read it yet, but I've read other works by Ms. Ladd, and she has a wonderful talent! I love her characters! Synopsis: Kate's loyalties bind her to the past. Henry's loyalties compel him to strive for a better future. In a landscape torn between tradition and vision, can two souls find the strength to overcome their preconceptions? Loyalty has been at the heart of the Dearborne family for as long as Kate can remember, but a war is brewing in their small village, one that has the power to rip families asunder--including her own.
