Lock and Key by Sarah Dessen

First read of the new year, complete!!

I just returned from California, and although I didn't get as much reading done as I'd hoped, I had a great trip (minus a bit of illness toward the end).

I'm not sure what made me start the year off with a contemporary; it's been a while since I've read one. I think all this cold Oklahoma weather just had me dreaming of summery reads. Overall, I'm pretty pleased with my first pick! The second one.. not so much, but we'll get to that later.

1. Characters: I can always connect with Sarah Dessen's characters, even when I seem to have nothing in common with them. Isn't that the strangest? Lock and Key was no different. It had a myriad of characters that felt like real, everyday people. I almost wish there was a sequel!

2. Story: Lock and Key is a story about a girl whose mother abandons her, and she is sent to live with her older sister (whom she hasn't seen in years) who seems to have a dream-life: big beautiful house, wonderful husband, un-housebroken doggy (haha). Of course, it's not all happily ever after right away. Relationships are stretched and renewed and secrets come out that prove you just never know what goes in each person's life journey-even those within your own family.

3. Author's Writing Style: I don't think I've ever read a Sarah Dessen book that I didn't like. Like I said, her characters are always so real to me and though the situations are never perfect, I feel like I'm truly stepping into these characters' lives and walking through the story with them. Sarah will always be an auto-buy author for me.

4. Overall Rating: 4/5 Stars. I reserve my 5 star ratings for books I absolutely cannot put down, otherwise I would give this that rating. I have absolutely no complaints whatsoever. It is an exceptional contemporary read, a soft romance, and a great YA novel. As I said, I wish it had a sequel!

I haven't had a chance to read it yet, but I've read other works by Ms. Ladd, and she has a wonderful talent! I love her characters! Synopsis: Kate's loyalties bind her to the past. Henry's loyalties compel him to strive for a better future. In a landscape torn between tradition and vision, can two souls find the strength to overcome their preconceptions? Henry Stockton, heir to the Stockton fortune, returns home from three years at war seeking refuge from his haunting memories. Determined to bury the pa

Monday Madness!

Ahoy there! 💦 (No idea why I felt like greeting you that way... But I did.) I just had to gush on two particular things today: 1. My Shelfie 2. My Shop Item #1 on the agenda: The shelfie I posted yesterday! Click the image to visit my bookstagram! I gotta admit.. I really  like the way my shelves look right now. Unfortunately, in order to showcase some of my favorite covers of the moment, I had to hide about half of my books behind  other books. Which is kind of fun because next time I rearrange my bookcase and take them all out, I will have undoubtedly forgotten about many of them and it'll be like re-discovering lost treasure. 😂However, it also means I simple don't get to enjoy the visibility of about half my books. 😔 Sad times. At this point, nearly every single little cubby has books behind books. So, I mean, I can't just keep doing that forever. Eventually, I will need to get a new bookshelf to add to my bookcase. The problem is, I really want a whi
