A Little Something Different by Sandy Hall

Ahoy there!

I have no idea why I greeted you that way; this book is not set on a beach or near the sea or even mentioning a lake. Pardon my weirdness... let's get to the good stuff!

While puttering through City of Glass by Cassandra Clare and waiting on The Heart of Betrayal by Mary Pearson to arrive on my doorstep (courtesy of Amazon), I decided to pick up a quick, 240 page contemporary last night and attempt to fly through it. And guess what? SUCCESS! I started this book around 7 pm and,  with minimal distractions, was able to finish around 10:30 pm. I am guilty of a few Bookstagram breaks, but eh- what ya gonna do.

The cover of this book was what drew me in and, much like my previous read, I really knew nothing til I got it home and briefly skimmed over the synopsis on the back. If you look closely at the cover, you'll see that it says, "Fourteen Viewpoints, One Love Story." Interesting, right?

1. Characters: The fourteen viewpoints mentioned on the cover consist of twelve humans, one squirrel, and one bench that witness the love story of Gabe and Lea unfold on a college campus. A squirrel? A bench? I know, I know. It sounds silly- and it was! But it was the fun kind of silly that actually makes you giggle out loud while reading. As for the twelve human beings that help tell the story, there's a great amount of diversity and it doesn't feel forced. Getting to the pair the story is centered around, Gabe and Lea, they were pretty darn cute and had believable chemistry.

2. Story: There wasn't anything particularly awe-inspiring about the story itself. It's a pretty typical boy-meets-girl. But, I will say that I enjoyed the fact that it's set on a college campus rather than the in halls of a high school. As someone who works in higher ed, I liked seeing a story unfold that was set in an environment that I identify with and don't often see in YA literature.

3. Author's Writing Style: As you can imagine by the fact that I finished this little story in a single sitting, I enjoyed the author's writing style. I breezed through it. I would definitely like to pick up more work by this author, as it gave a respite from the intensity of YA fantasy, but didn't demand the commitment of time that a full contemporary novel would require.

4. Overall Rating: 3.5 Stars. It's hard to give such a short story any kind of extreme rating- good or bad. I did enjoy this, and I would recommend it to anyone looking for a light, extremely quick read.

BOOK TOUR!! Steal Away Home by Billy Coffey

It's time!! I am honored to be a part of TLC's book tour for Steal Away Home by Billy Coffey. Published by Thomas Nelson, Steal Away Home is a newly released work of Christian fiction that is told through the eyes of minor league baseball player Owen Cross. As Owen is offered his first big time shot, he reflects back on the journey that led him there. I can truly say several things about this book: The language used and writing style overall is breathtaking. It's poetic. The characters are well-developed and dynamic. The story unfolds in a way that creates tension and mystery. By the end of Steal Away Home , I was dying to see how the flashbacks of Owen's life leading up to the big game would connect to his present state and how far the story would go beyond the game.  Did I mention the cover? ๐Ÿ˜ Take a look again, and click the image below to read the full synopsis on Goodreads! Monday Madness!

Ahoy there! ๐Ÿ’ฆ (No idea why I felt like greeting you that way... But I did.) I just had to gush on two particular things today: 1. My Shelfie 2. My Shop Item #1 on the agenda: The shelfie I posted yesterday! Click the image to visit my bookstagram! I gotta admit.. I really  like the way my shelves look right now. Unfortunately, in order to showcase some of my favorite covers of the moment, I had to hide about half of my books behind  other books. Which is kind of fun because next time I rearrange my bookcase and take them all out, I will have undoubtedly forgotten about many of them and it'll be like re-discovering lost treasure. ๐Ÿ˜‚However, it also means I simple don't get to enjoy the visibility of about half my books. ๐Ÿ˜” Sad times. At this point, nearly every single little cubby has books behind books. So, I mean, I can't just keep doing that forever. Eventually, I will need to get a new bookshelf to add to my bookcase. The problem is, I really want a whi...
