Amy & Roger's Epic Detour by Morgan Matson

Oh, Morgan Matson- You've done it again! After finishing Amy & Roger's Epic Detour, I can't help but wonder why I waited so long to read it. This was the final work of Morgan Matson's that I hadn't read, and I wasn't sure if I would like it. Which is crazy considering I have enjoyed everything I've read by her. I am very excited to write this review though, so let's get going!

First, as usual, I have to talk about the cover. I absolutely love contemporary covers, especially for summer reads like Morgan Matson's. There's just something happy about them, ya know?

Alright, here we go-

1. Characters: It's safe to say I have a new literary crush. Roger is absolutely adorable!! The main characters have great chemistry, the colorful characters they encounter along the way are genuine and unique and the family relationships are very real.

2. Story: This story was very touching and never felt forced. After losing her father in a car accident (not a spoiler, I promise), Amy does not want to get behind the wheel of a car. After losing my own step-brother in a car accident right before obtaining my driver's permit in high school, I felt similar anxiety and dread when it came to driving. I identified so much with Amy's character and the journey she was on. Roger is on a journey of his own as well and together the two are a recipe for a heartfelt story of growth and acceptance.

3. Author's writing style:  As always, Morgan Matson is a master of teen and young adult voice. In this particular story, she also uses pictures and scrapbook notes to help tell the story. I absolutely love that. The story, though confronting very emotional themes, is kept mostly light due to the delicacy with which Matson presents it. Also, random note, she tweeted me the other day which is absolutely awesome.

Ahhhhh!!!!!!

4. Overall rating: 5 stars  If you've visited my Rating and Review System page, you know that 5 stars means I absolutely loved it and highly recommend it. I know that the contemporary genre is not something that all readers or YA readers gravitate towards, but  I would truly recommend this book to anyone and everyone. As I said, the story has a lot of heart, the characters are great, and the writing style is extremely fun. I wish I had more to read by Morgan Matson! BOOK TOUR!! Steal Away Home by Billy Coffey

It's time!! I am honored to be a part of TLC's book tour for Steal Away Home by Billy Coffey. Published by Thomas Nelson, Steal Away Home is a newly released work of Christian fiction that is told through the eyes of minor league baseball player Owen Cross. As Owen is offered his first big time shot, he reflects back on the journey that led him there. I can truly say several things about this book: The language used and writing style overall is breathtaking. It's poetic. The characters are well-developed and dynamic. The story unfolds in a way that creates tension and mystery. By the end of Steal Away Home , I was dying to see how the flashbacks of Owen's life leading up to the big game would connect to his present state and how far the story would go beyond the game.  Did I mention the cover? ๐Ÿ˜ Take a look again, and click the image below to read the full synopsis on Goodreads! Monday Madness!

Ahoy there! ๐Ÿ’ฆ (No idea why I felt like greeting you that way... But I did.) I just had to gush on two particular things today: 1. My Shelfie 2. My Shop Item #1 on the agenda: The shelfie I posted yesterday! Click the image to visit my bookstagram! I gotta admit.. I really  like the way my shelves look right now. Unfortunately, in order to showcase some of my favorite covers of the moment, I had to hide about half of my books behind  other books. Which is kind of fun because next time I rearrange my bookcase and take them all out, I will have undoubtedly forgotten about many of them and it'll be like re-discovering lost treasure. ๐Ÿ˜‚However, it also means I simple don't get to enjoy the visibility of about half my books. ๐Ÿ˜” Sad times. At this point, nearly every single little cubby has books behind books. So, I mean, I can't just keep doing that forever. Eventually, I will need to get a new bookshelf to add to my bookcase. The problem is, I really want a whi...
