*Kiss of Deception* (Remnant Chronicles #1) by Mary Pearson

Asdfghjkl.

Mush. That is how I feel after finishing Kiss of Deception. I'm an absolute mush puddle over this book. I can't wait to jump into this review and gush, so here we go!

First- the cover. ๐Ÿ˜ This book was basically a cover buy for me! I knew it was YA fantasy and I knew there was an aspect of romance, but other than that I really did zero research going into this. I barely glimpsed at the synopsis. Because LOOK at this cover, ya'll.

1. Characters: What can I say? I love every. single. character. I love the main character, her friends, the love interests (although I definitely have a particular "team" I'm already on), the side characters. Everyone is incredibly well-developed and has depth as well as an air of mystery about them (which is a hard balance to keep).

2. Story: The pacing of this book really surprised me! I assumed it would be kind of difficult to get into since many fantasy works take a while to build the world, introduce characters, get to the story- but this jumped right in! It reminded me a lot of Throne of Glass in that aspect. There was never a single scene or paragraph that I skimmed through because I thought "Let's get to the good stuff." It was all good stuff in my opinion. The role of spirituality, magic, giftedness- whatever you want to call it- plays a huge part in this, but it didn't feel cliche to me. This wasn't like the many other YA works out at the moment that focus on a "Chosen One" who has some special power that saves everyone. Will that change later in the series? Maybe. But for right now, I'm loving the way the story is unfolding and the pace the author has set.

3. Author's Writing Style: Speaking of world-building... Just WOW. In addition to a gorgeous cover, this book had a beautiful and unique map in the front cover that I found myself flipping back and forth to throughout my time reading because I was so engrossed in the story, I had to see where they were going next or how far X was from Y. To me, the world-building was subtle and flawless. The story itself is told in alternating POVs, which I nearly always like, and this time was no different. I think alternating POV is part of why several of the characters feel so well-developed, not just the main character. I love that style of writing when it's well-executed, and this author nailed it.

4. Overall Rating: ALL THE STARS ๐ŸŒŸ๐ŸŒŸ๐ŸŒŸ๐ŸŒŸ๐ŸŒŸ(5 Stars). My last five star read I can think of was back in May when I flew through The Infernal Devices. Ever since then, I've been hesitating to give anything 5 stars because I feel like everything else I've read has just been missing that unnameable quality. But this... This had everything for me. The world, the story, the characters... I loved every page.

BOOK TOUR!! Steal Away Home by Billy Coffey

It's time!! I am honored to be a part of TLC's book tour for Steal Away Home by Billy Coffey. Published by Thomas Nelson, Steal Away Home is a newly released work of Christian fiction that is told through the eyes of minor league baseball player Owen Cross. As Owen is offered his first big time shot, he reflects back on the journey that led him there. I can truly say several things about this book: The language used and writing style overall is breathtaking. It's poetic. The characters are well-developed and dynamic. The story unfolds in a way that creates tension and mystery. By the end of Steal Away Home , I was dying to see how the flashbacks of Owen's life leading up to the big game would connect to his present state and how far the story would go beyond the game.  Did I mention the cover? ๐Ÿ˜ Take a look again, and click the image below to read the full synopsis on Goodreads! Don't forget to add it to your to-read shelf. Steal Away ...

Monday Madness!

Ahoy there! ๐Ÿ’ฆ (No idea why I felt like greeting you that way... But I did.) I just had to gush on two particular things today: 1. My Shelfie 2. My Shop Item #1 on the agenda: The shelfie I posted yesterday! Click the image to visit my bookstagram! I gotta admit.. I really  like the way my shelves look right now. Unfortunately, in order to showcase some of my favorite covers of the moment, I had to hide about half of my books behind  other books. Which is kind of fun because next time I rearrange my bookcase and take them all out, I will have undoubtedly forgotten about many of them and it'll be like re-discovering lost treasure. ๐Ÿ˜‚However, it also means I simple don't get to enjoy the visibility of about half my books. ๐Ÿ˜” Sad times. At this point, nearly every single little cubby has books behind books. So, I mean, I can't just keep doing that forever. Eventually, I will need to get a new bookshelf to add to my bookcase. The problem is, I really want a whi...
